Afghan forces have cleared two districts in northern Takhar province of Taliban militants, authorities said on Saturday.
In a statement, the country’s defense ministry said that Khwaja Ghar district in Takhar was fully cleared of Taliban insurgents in a joint operation by Afghan forces that had been launched a few days ago.
It said that Taliban suffered heavy casualties in the operation without providing an exact figure.
Another district in the same province, Baharak, was also fully cleared of Taliban militants, according to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry.
It said that the achievement was made following an operation in Abdal and Takhta Kaparak villages of the district.
Eighty-nine militants were killed while 67 others were wounded in the operation, the statement aid.
Weapons and ammunition were seized during both the operations, authorities said.
