Six members of one family were killed when a mortar hit their house in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday.
Four of those killed in the incident in Shirzad district were children.
Local residents claimed that the mortar had been fired from an area under government control.
Ajmal Omar, deputy chief of provincial council, said that the locals had claimed that several mortars hit homes that they had been fired from a security checkpoint.
Jafar Khan, a tribal elder in Shirzad district, it was one year since civilians were suffering casualties in government operations.
Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for provincial governor, rejected it saying that security forces had not carried out any shelling on that day.
He, however, said that a delegation was appointed to investigate the incident.
