Unidentified armed men set a school on fire before dawn on Thursday in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province, officials said.
Abu Usman Taluqani High School in the provincial capital, Taluqan, was torched by the attackers around 3:30 a.m.
The school was one of the oldest ones in the city with 3,000 students enrolled.
No individual or group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
It comes nine days before schools are expected to reopen after months of closure due to coronavirus pandemic.
