Afghan forces conducted an air raid against a gathering of Taliban leaders in northern Sar-i-Pul province on Saturday evening, the country’s army said.
The raid, involving several strikes, targeted the gathering in Kata Qala village of Sozma Qala district, the army’s 209 Shaheen Corps said.
It said that Taliban’s shadow deputy defense minister, Muzamil, was also present in the meeting when the strikes happened.
Officials have yet to give casualty number from the incident.
All roads leading to the district were closed following the operation. Militants forced suspension of telecommunication services and barred vehicles from exiting the district.
Taliban has yet to make comment on the operation.
Meanwhile, at least 10 Afghan forces were killed while 13 others were wounded in clashes over the past 24 hours in Jowzjan, Ghor, Kunduz, Uruzgan and Kapisa provinces.
Local officials said that militants also heavy casualties in the clashes.
In Faryab, a mortar fired by Taliban militants killed a woman and wounded four other civilians including children, local officials said.
It happened during a battle between security forces and Taliban in Qarghan district.
