The number of coronavirus cases in Afghanistan passed 4,000, officials said on Saturday, as the governor’s of southern Kandahar province confirmed he was infected.
Wahid Majroh, a spokesman for Public Health Minister, said that 253 more people tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the country’s total to 4,033.
A total of six fatalities across the country raised the death toll to 115, he said.
A total of 502 patients have recovered since the outbreak began, including 29 over the past 24 hours, he said.
On Saturday, Kandahar Governor Hayatullah Hayat said that his coronavirus test came back as positive, two days after Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz’s infection was confirmed.
According to Majroh, infection cases include also 392 health workers. Six of them have died.
