Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday launched a learning management system to be used by university students and teachers to exchange learning materials online amid coronavirus pandemic.
38 state universities, 11 private universities and 147,589 students are registered in the Higher Education Learning Management System, according to Acting Higher Education Minister Abdul Tawab Balakarzai.
Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology Fahim Hashimy described it as a major step toward digitalization of higher education.
He said that more steps will be taken to boost the capacity of internet.
He said that the ministry has taken all necessary technical preparations and Salaam telecommunication company would provide 50,000 SIM cards to students for free.
Meanwhile, President Ghani said that the system was created by Afghan specialists, having low cost and high quality.
He said that with the system the method of teaching and learning will be according to global standards.
He stated that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology should do more on balanced provision of internet.
