Afghan security forces have retaken Khumab district in northern Jowzjan province from the Taliban, an official said Sunday.
Fourteen militants including Taliban’s shadow deputy governor, Ghulam Sarwar, were killed in the operation to recapture the district, said Abdul Maruf Azar, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
Ten other militants were wounded in the operation and one truck was seized by the security forces.
Azar said that operation was ongoing in Qarqin district and security forces reduced security threat there.
