Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Monday negotiations with the Taliban without a ceasefire were impossible.
The president said this during a ceremony to introduce Ahmad Zia Siraj as newly-appointed acting chief of intelligence agency National Directorate of Security.
The remraks come after US President Donald Trump cancelled peace talks with Taliban, citing the group’s continued violence.
“We prepared conditions for peace, but Taliban got it wrong, this nation will not surrender to coercion,” Ghani said.
The president also suggested that peace would not be possible without the Taliban entering into direct talks with the Afghan government.
