A car bomb and gunfire targeted an Afghan forces base in Gardez city, capital of eastern Paktia province, on Tuesday, official said.
The attack was launched around 5:30 a.m. with militants carrying out a suicide car bombing near the Public Protection Force base, said Abdul Rahman Mangal, a spokesman for provincial governor.
Two attackers entered the compound but they were killed by Afghan forces within 10 minutes, he said.
The attack left also three Afghan forces dead and five others injured.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
