Afghanistan’s cabinet has decided that universities should reopen from tomorrow (Wednesday), the government said on Tuesday.
Schools will remain closed as the cabinet meeting asked the education ministry to present a new plan for reopening schools at next meeting, Sediq Sediqi, a presidential spokesman, said at a press conference.
Previously, authorities had announced that schools and universities would remain closed until September as the nation’s number confirmed coronavirus cases continued to climb.
On Tuesday, a spokesman for Public Health Ministry said that schools could reopen gradually starting from upper grades, but reopening primary ones would be too dangerous.
The ministry has registered 36,787 coronavirus cases and 1,288 deaths from it so far.
