At least eight civilians were killed after a roadside bomb exploded in Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province, an official said Sunday.
The victims, including a woman were travelling in a car when it was hit by the bomb in Chimtal district around 11:00a.m. on Saturday, said Abdul Matin Khwajazada, the district governor. Munir Farhad, a spokesman for provincial governor, however, said that the blast happened on Sunday.
They were travelling toward the provincial capital city, Mazar-i-Sharif.
Khwajazada said that the bomb had been planted by the Taliban to hit Afghan forces, but it hit a civilian car as a result of which all those travelling in it were killed.
Taliban has yet to comment on the incident.
