Coronavirus cases in Afghanistan are hundreds of times higher than the official figure, an official said Sunday.
Mohammad Yaqub Haidari, the governor of Kabul, said that millions of Afghans are suffering from COVID-19.
According to the governor, between 30 to 40 people are dying from coronavirus everyday in Afghanistan.
This comes as the official number of infections stands at 24,766 while deaths are at 471.
The Ministry of Health said on Sunday it detected 664 cases of coronavirus out of 1,211 samples tested over the past 24 hours.
The ministry admits low testing capacity and that real number of coronavirus cases in the country is higher than detected.
Although officials have made wearing masks and maintaining two meters social distancing compulsory, but the measures are largely ignored by the public.
