As many as 63,000 protective gowns have been purchased for just 100 medics and health workers in Afghanistan’s central Logar province, documents obtained by 1TV show.
More than a million afghanis have been spent for the purchase of the gowns for protection against coronavirus, according to the documents.
Each gown has been purchased for 1,746 afghanis, double the market price.
The documents also show that the contract required delivery of 38 items of equipment and medicines within one month, failure to do so would result in termination of the contract.
However, the equipment and medicines were delivered with a delay of up to three months and the contractor was not fined.
Former Logar governor, Mohammad Khan Ishaqzai, declined request for comment.
This comes as the fate of five current and former health ministry officials who were accused of embezzlement from coronavirus funds remain unclear.
