As many as 840 Taliban militants have been killed over the past 28 days in Afghanistan, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
385 other Taliban militants were injured during the period, said Tariq Arian, a spokesman for Interior Ministry.
Taliban have yet to make comment on the announcement.
Meanwhile, Kandahar police chief, Tadin Khan, said on Wednesday that 54 Taliban militants were killed in an airstrike last night as they were on their way to Maiwand district.
Eighty-two other militants were wounded in the strike, he said.
Peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban started on 12th September in Qatari capital Doha, but progress has been slow and violence levels remain high.
