Airlines will have to pay 100,000 afghanis as fine if their flight is delayed without any good reason for over half an hour, Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority has said.
Based on the new rules, in case of delay of more than five hours, the flight is cancelled and the airline will have to arrange an alternative plane and pay 25,000 afghanis fine for every hour the flight was delayed.
In case the flight is delayed due to technical issues, the airline will have to shift the passengers to suitable places such as hotels until the flight is ready.
Airlines will also have to compensate any loss the passengers incur for flight delays.
Delay in flights is a major problem in Afghanistan. It happens more frequently in domestic flights than international flights.
Suhrab Qais, head of a travel agency, said that at times passengers spend the entire night due to flight delay.
Two domestic airlines are operating in Afghanistan, carrying most passengers into and out of the country.
However, international flights of the airlines are limited to due to the coronavirus pandemic.
