Pakistan’s top diplomat has angrily reacted to U.S. president’s threatening to cut aid, saying it will not do more.
Since August, U.S. has repeatedly asked Pakistan to stop harbouring militants, who launch attacks in Afghanistan, but Islamabad has not changed its behaviour.
In his first tweet of 2018, President Trump sent a tough message to Pakistan which he said had given lies and deceit in return for billions of dollars in U.S. aid. “No more!” he said.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khwaja Mohammad Asif in a twitter post said: “Will let the world know the truth… difference between facts and fiction.”
In an interview with Pakistan’s Geo News, Asif said that Pakistan has already refused to ‘do more’ for the U.S.
“We have already told the U.S. that we will not do more, so Trump’s ‘no more’ does not hold any importance,” he said in an interview with Pakistan’s Geo News.
“Trump is disappointed at the U.S. defeat in Afghanistan and that is the only reason he is flinging accusations at Pakistan,” he said.
“Our lands, roads, rail and other different kinds of services were used for which we were reimbursed. A proper audit took place for the reimbursements,” he said.
Asif said that the U.S. should try to negotiate with Taliban in Afghanistan instead of extending their military presence.
