The Taliban have forced dozens of schools in Mohammad Agha district of Afghanistan’s central Logar province to close, officials said on Saturday.
Qasim Khoshiwal, deputy head of provincial council in Logar, told 1TV that the militants did this in response to building Afghan forces’ checkpoints in the district.
Another source, who requested anonymity, said that the Taliban shut down schools in the district until presidential election which is scheduled to be held next week.
Logar’s director of education, Abdul Wakil Kaliwal, confirmed that the Taliban had warned school authorities to close schools by contacting them through phone.
He said that students are now not interested to attend.
There are around 64 schools in Mohammad Agha district, 21 of which are for girls, according to officials.
