Twenty percent of the population in Afghanistan is expected to receive coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2021, the country’s acting health minister said on Wednesday.
Javad Ahmad Osmani, who was speaking at a press conference, said that two types of coronavirus vaccines are on the market and Afghanistan is among 92 countries which will receive them.
He said that a second wave of coronavirus has already begun in Afghanistan as the country registers greater number of daily infections.
Wedding halls will be shut until 20 December to fight the virus, he said.
Provincial emergency committees to prevent coronavirus have also been reactivated, he said.
Afghanistan has registered 43,924 cases of coronavirus, including 243 over the past 24 hours. There have been 1,645 deaths attributed to it.
