Afghan forces destroyed a large cache of explosives belonging to the Taliban in central-eastern Ghazni province last night, the country’s defense ministry said on Saturday.
Around 2,000 kilograms were explosives were in the cache in Muqur district, the ministry said in a statement.
The raid, with air support, was carried out by Afghan commandos and special forces of intelligence agency National Directorate of Security.
Twenty-six Taliban militants were killed in the raid. 26 motorcycles, one car and two Taliban were destroyed.
MoD’s statement said that the explosives had been transferred to Ghazni from a neighbouring country. They were prepared by bomb-makers of al-Qaeda-Indian Subcontinent for attacks capital Kabul and other major cities of the country.
One member of Afghan force was injured in the operation.
