An Afghan Taliban delegation, led by its deputy leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, travelled from Qatar to Pakistan on Sunday to discuss latest developments in peace process, the group said.
Suhail Shaheen, a spokesman for Taliban’s political office in Qatar, said that the visit came following an invitation from Pakistan’s foreign ministry.
“The delegation will hold talks with senior Pakistani officials about recent developments in Afghanistan’s peace process, relaxation and facilitation of peoples’ movement and trade between the two neighboring countries, issues related to the Afghan refugees in Pakistan and other related topic,” he said on Twitter.
The visit comes days after Pakistan issued statutory notification ordering full compliance with UN sanctions against Afghan Taliban and groups linked with it. Baradar is also among those who are sanctioned.
This is not the first time that a Taliban delegation travels from Qatar to Pakistan to discuss Afghan peace process.
In October last year, a delegation led by Baradar met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
