Taliban militants have abducted 53 civilians in Afghanistan’s central Daikundi province, police said on Saturday.
Gul Aqa Sajadi, a spokesman for provincial police, said that the abduction happened after the insurgents stopped 15 vehicles carrying people from Kijran and Keti districts.
He said that the abduction took place after a couple fled Taliban-controlled area into Kijran district. 35 women were among them.
The Taliban demand the couple to be handed over to them for release of the abductees.
The official said that local elders were in talks with the Taliban for the release of the abductees.
