Afghanistan’s ministry of education on Thursday launched distribution of 12.2 million newly-published textbooks for schoolchildren across the country.
The textbooks are for primary school students, involving first to sixth grade.
The ministry has tasked a private printing house in Kabul to deliver the textbooks.
Lack of school text books has been a major complaint by school students.
Textbooks are distributed to school students for free, but there have also been complaints of selling of the books in the market.
Earlier, the Education Ministry said that it would review the current curriculum being taught in schools.
Acting Education Minister Mirwais Balkh said that launching a new curriculum would take time.
Based on data, 90 million textbooks should be distributed for school children of all categories every year.
Printing of more than 37 million more textbooks are expected to being in next few days.
Experts say that printing of books is not enough to improve the situation of education in the country. They insist on improving the curriculum.
