Afghan-Japan Communicable Disease Hospital in Kabul faces numerous problems including shortage of medical supplies and staff and delaying coronavirus test results, an Afghan rights watchdog said on Wednesday.
Based on international standards, the 100-bed hospital should have 280 staff members, but only 179 staff members have been appointed by the Public Health Ministry, many of whom are absent, Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said in a report.
Health workers also face shortage of protective kits. The hospital’s chief medic said that they would run out of protective kits in three days and health workers would not be able enter wards where coronavirus patients are kept, according to the report.
There were also shortage of masks and disinfectants.
Doctors who have come from provinces also complained about lack of accommodation for them.
Delay in releasing test results was also a problem at the hospital with some visitors saying they couldn’t get results in as long as eight days.
There were also confusions among patients with identical names as Test Form they fill don’t include surname or father name.
The hospital also faces the problem of high-ranking officials requesting unnecessary tests, the report said.
