Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said on Monday it saved $40 million by cancelling unnecessary contracts during the past two months.
Acting Minister Fahim Hashimy warned that those who committed corruption over the contracts would be referred to prosecution.
The contracts cancelled involved two government-owned companies Salaam and Afghan Telecom.
Hashimy said that other contracts of the ministry are also being assessed, adding inefficient ones could be cancelled.
Commenting on Taliban’s threat against Salaam telecom company, Hashimy said that such threats would not prevent the company from operating.
He said that security measures would soon be in place for the infrastructure and employees of the company.
