Qatar on Tuesday invited Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to attend the signing ceremony for peace deal between the United States and the Taliban in Doha on February 29, Islamabad said.
The invitation was extended by Qatar’s ambassador to Pakistan, Saqr Bin Mubarak Al-Mansouri who met Qureshi.
Welcoming the agreement, Qureshi underscored the importance of the deal in paving the way forward towards lasting peace in Afghanistan, Pakistan foreign ministry’s spokesperson, Aisha Farooqi, said.
The invitation is extended on the fourth day of a seven-day reduction in violence period that is meant to lead to the deal.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he would put his name in the deal.
If signed, the agreement and subsequent intra-Afghan talks represent a chance for peace and the potential pullout of thousands of US troops who have been in Afghanistan since US-led forces ousted Taliban from power in 2001.
