Iran’s President Hasan Rouhani laughed as he said Afghanistan made voting electronic at an event on Monday.
“I don’t like the current system where we have ballot boxes, but we have no other choice now,” Rouhani says addressing a conference of governors-general and governors.
“We should make voting system electronic which Afghanistan also did. It is not a big deal,” Rouhani said as he and the audience laughed.
Rouhanis’ comment was criticized in Afghanistan.
“Don’t taunt us, learn from us,” Shah Hussain Murtazawi, a senior adviser to Afghan president said on Facebook.
“In 2014, election rival in Afghanistan became partner in the government, but that of the neighboring country was imprisoned,” Mutazawi said.
“We don’t have political prisons, jailed journalists, we are not single-voice society,” Murtazawi said. “Afghanistan has advantages and beauties which many of the neighboring don’t have.”
