Former Afghan captain Gulbadin Naib said on Wednesday that he will not play under the captaincy of Asghar Afghan.
In a live video on Facebook, Naib claimed that Asghar and Atif Mashal, then chairman of Afghanistan Cricket Board, annoyed him a lot while he was captaining the team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
“I congratulated Rashid Khan on becoming captain, but I will not congratulate one who made fun of Afghanistan name and flag at World Cup,” Naib said. “I was telling him that it is not my team, neither it is yours or another’s, it is Afghanistan’s team, let’s do it for Afghanistan.”
Naib said that he will not play international cricket under the captaincy of Asghar Afghan, but he will play domestic cricket.
Naib had replaced Asghar as captainfor one-day international matchesbefore the World Cup in England and Wales, where Afghanistan finished last in the 10-team field, losing all of its matches.
