Thirteen Afghan police were killed in separate attacks in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province last night, officials said on Tuesday.
The attacks carried out by Taliban insurgents targeted police checkpoints in Ali Abad district, Interior Ministry’s spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said.
Two other police were injured in the assaults, he said.
Militants also suffered heavy casualties in counterattack, the official said without providing an exact figure.
Meanwhile, local officials in southern Uruzgan province said eight Afghan commandos were killed while 20 others were wounded in battle in Gezab district, which entered its 21st day.
Sadat Nasiri, deputy provincial governor, said that the battle involved hundreds of Taliban fighters.
In western Farah province, Taliban militants killed one and wounded five others in an attack on wedding ceremony in Purchaman district last night, said Muhibullah Mohib, a spokesman for provincial police.
In eastern Nangarhar province, Taliban gunmen killed a worker of intelligence agency National Directorate of Security in provincial capital Jalalabad on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in western Herat province, Taliban militants abducted and killed an imam in Adraskan district.
