India handed over two Mi-35 gunship helicopters from Belarus to the Afghan Air Force on Tuesday, Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said.
The helicopters were handed over during a ceremony at Kabul airport that was attended also by Afghan Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid and Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar.
India has delivered several Mi-35 helicopters to Afghanistan in recent years.
Last year, General John Campbell, the then commander of US forces in Afghanistan, said that India-donated Mi-34 multi-role helicopters had made a big difference in the offensive against militants.
The Mi-35, a comprehensive upgrade of the Mi-24, is a versatile helicopter gunship with troop carrying capabilities.
