A key Taliban commander was killed in a joint air raid by Afghan and coalition forces in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, Afghan authorities said.
Idrees, also known as Abu Yousuf, was commander of Taliban’s“special forces” branch, known as the “Red Unit, for central-eastern Ghazni province, intelligence agency National Directorate of Security said.
He was planning attacks not only in Ghazni but also in Kabul, the agency said.
The militant was killed in Nangarhar’s Khogyani district, it said.
