Eleven Afghan forces were killed after the Taliban launched an attack in northern Balkh province last night, officials said.
Taliban claimed that its fighters seized Shor Tepa district in the attack, but local officials rejected the claim.
Munir Ahmad Farhad, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that the insurgents targeted district police headquarter, adding both the district governor’s compound and the police headquarter remained under the control of Afghan forces.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for provincial police, said that only two security checkpoints in the district fell to the militants in the attack.
Shor Tepa is a volatile district which is located near Hairatan port.
