A protest turned violent in Ghazni on Sunday after an airstrike allegedly killed several civilians in the central-eastern Afghan province.
The strike happened on Saturday evening in Deh Haji village of Khwaja Omari district, killing six civilians and wounding three others, local residents said.
Residents marched toward the provincial capital, also Ghazni, but the protest turned violent after police stopped them in Hakim Sanayi area.
Six protesters were injured in police shooting. The protesters gathered near the provincial governor’s office, demanding justice.
Ghazni Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai met the protesters and confirmed that the airstrike carried out by Afghan forces caused civilian casualties.
He said that the target of the operation was Taliban insurgents.
