Pakistan summoned Afghanistan’s charge d’affaires in Islamabad on Saturday to protest what it said firing on Pakistani soldiers that left three of them dead and one seriously injured.
In a statement, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said that the Pakistani military contingent was engaged in completion of fencing of Pakistan-Afghanistan border when it came under attack.
“While strongly condemning the attack, it was underscored that the Afghan side was responsible for securing the areas on its side of the border, as mutually agreed on several occasions,” the statement said.
It urged the Afghan government to “do the needful to secure the border areas, especially along the sensitive points, to maintain the level of cooperation needed to effectively counterterrorist elements in their areas.”
