The Taliban announced on Sunday it allowed the International Red Cross in Afghanistan to resume operations.
In April, the Taliban banned Red Cross from operating in areas under their control, citing unspecified “suspicious” actions.
In a statement, the Taliban said that it “restores the former security guarantees to ICRC in Afghanistan.”
It instructed its fighters to pave the way for ICRC activities and “be mindful of this committee’s workers and equipment.”
The announcement came following discussions between Taliban representatives and heads of ICRC in Qatar capital Doha, according to the statement.
Roya Musawi, a Red Cross spokeswoman in Afghanistan, reportedly confirmed that operations throughout the country had resumed following the publication of the statement.
Operations include the transportation and handling of bodies left on the battlefield, arranging family visits for prisoners on both sides of the conflict, and providing health services, she said.
