Taliban fighters took control of Yangi Qala district in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province on Tuesday, an official said.
Jawad Hijri, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that the district collapsed after Afghan forces retreated to avoid civilian casualties.
This is second district to fall in the hand of militants in a week. Earlier, the insurgents captured Anar Dara district in western Farah province.
It comes a day after Afghan forces captured Yamgan district in northeast Badakhshan province, second district to be retaken in a week.
