Peace does not mean a power sharing deal, but an end to violence, President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday.
Speaking in a ceremony to mark Ashura, Ghani said that people shouldn’t not worry about peace, because it would be under the republic.
The president said that the nation is not asleep and in darkness and that those who think they can impose their will on people should think again.
He said that the republic is a big system that can absorb small groups.
Meanwhile, Second Vice President Sarwar Danish hoped that talks with Taliban will begin in next few days.
He said that people have paid huge sacrifices for survival of the republic and a dignified and lasting peace is that which conforms to republic’s goals.
Intra-Afghan talks have been delayed due to disagreements over prisoner releases.
The Afghan government says that it will the remaining 320 Taliban prisoners if the group frees its commandos.
EU’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Roland Kobia, said on Sunday there is currently a quasi exclusive focus on the issue of -a few- prisoners.
“The EU wishes there was as much energy and political interest dedicated to the immediate ceasefire, which concerns -all- Afghans, and truly relates to peace,” Kobia said on Twitter.
