The long-delayed parliamentary elections in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province will be held in April/May next year, the Independent Election Commission said on Sunday.
The parliamentary election was held in 33 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces in October 2018 after around three years of delay.
The vote was not held in Ghazni province due to a dispute over representation between different ethnic groups.
Habib-ur-Rahman Nang, head of IEC’s secretariat, said that the commission expects to hold the election in Ghazni in April/May next year.
He said that the commission had asked the government to provide security and funding for the election.
Civil Society Election Coordination Group, however, criticized that IEC has prepared the election plan in the absence of election monitoring institutions.
