Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation has got three deputies appointed, sources close to head of the body, Abdullah Abdullah, told 1TV.
The newly appointed deputies are Abdul Salam Rahimi, who is serving as Minister of State for Peace Affairs, as well as Ata-ur-Rahman Saleem and Din Mohammad, two former members of High Peace Council.
The appointments come more than three months after Abdullah signed a political deal with President Ashraf Ghani to end their election dispute.
The deal envisages five deputies for the council. Abdullah’s office, however, said that a six deputy post will also be created which would be held by a woman.
Fraidoon Khwazoon,, a spokesman for High Council for National Reconciliation, said that the leadershipcommittee of the council, involving 44 members, has also been finalized.
Under the US-Taliban deal, intra-Afghan peace talks would start on March 10, after the release of up to 5,000 militants and 1,000 government prisoners.
The release process has faced delays and both sides accuse each other for it.
