Shah made 102 off 187 balls including 10 fours and two sixes after Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat against hosts Bangladesh in Chattogram.
Asghar Afghan hit 88 not out as Afghanistan posted 271-5 before the end of the first day, in which day played 96 overs.
Tajul Islam and Nayeem Hasan picked up two wickets each for Bangladesh.
