Production of grapes has increased by more than 15 percent in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province, local authorities said.
Hafizullah Sayedi, provincial director of agriculture, irrigation and livestock in Kandahar, said that production of grapes has increased by more than 15 percent this year.
Farmers, however, said that there is no
Nasrullah Rahbar, provincial head of chamber of commerce and investment, however, said that this year’s grape harvest has not been exported to any country due to coronavirus lockdown and it remains stored in the province.
Pakistan is one of the largest market for Afghan fruits, but Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing remains closed following clashes last month.
Farmers and traders fear that grapes may rot due to the closure of the crossing.
