The head of the Taliban’s political office, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, has warned the United States that it will take necessary decision if its troops fail to leave Afghanistan according to the agreed schedule.
“The results of implementation of the Doha agreement with the US have been positive so far. In the first stage, the US announced it has evacuated five military bases, and the number of American troops has been reduced to 8,600, as this process continues,” Baradar said in an interview with Iran’s semi-officialTasnimnews agency.
“However, if the foreign forces do not leave Afghanistan on schedule, the Islamic Emirate will make the necessary decisions,” the Taliban’s political chief warned.
The US-Taliban deal expects foreign troops to fully withdraw from Afghanistan by May 2021, conditions permitting.
On the intra-Afghan peace talks, Baradar said that the release of all 5,000 Taliban was a precondition for it.
He said that the Taliban have not a submitted a new list of prisoners to the Afghan government.
