US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has shown the draft of Washington’s agreement with the Taliban to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, the president’s adviser said on Monday.
The president’s spokesman, Sediq Sediqi, told a press conference that the government will consider the draft and share with Khalilzad its views over the draft in coming days.
Reuters citing sources said that Ghani will share his views within two days.
Sediqi said that views of politicians would also be taken in the process of examining the draft.
Khalilzad arrived in Kabul for consultations after concluding ninth round of talks with the Taliban in Qatar.
He said that they were on ‘threshold’ of an agreement.
The potential agreement is focused on four key issues: counter-terrorism assurances, troop withdrawal, intra-Afghan talks and ceasefire.
Intra-Afghan negotiations are expected to begin following the inking of US-Taliban deal.
Afghan government has already announced the formation of a 15-member negotiating team. The government is refusing to release names of the negotiators to avoid the team becoming large, Sediqi said.
