The sides of President Ashraf Ghani and head of High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah differ if honorary or regular marshal military rank should be given to Abdul Rashid Dostum.
The dispute has delayed the process of nominating new cabinet members. The marshal rank for Dostum, a former first vice president in the National Unity Government, has been promised in a political agreement between Ghani and Abdullah that was signed last month.
Sources told 1TV that the president is ready to approve only honorary marshal rank for Dostum, while Abdullah’s side insist on regular marshal rank.
Sources close to Abdullah, however, said that their list of nominees for cabinet posts had been finalized.
Sediq Sediqi, a presidential spokesman, said that they were waiting for the list of nominees in order to refer them to the parliament for approval.
The political agreement has determined 50/50 share in the cabinet for Ghani and Abdullah.
Ghani has nominated 12 ministers so far.
