The date and location of intra-Afghan negotiations will be determined within days, Afghan president’s spokesman said on Thursday.
Earlier, sources told 1TV that the initial round of talks will be held in Qatari capital Doha where the Taliban are maintaining a political office.
The talks were originally scheduled to begin on March 10 under a US-Taliban deal signed in February.
Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen on Thursday emphasized on the release of 5,000 prisoners before intra-Afghan talks could begin.
He said that the group would start the talks within one week after the process of release of prisoners is completed.
The government says it has released 3,000 Taliban prisoners so far.
Meanwhile, Russia’s special envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov has said that Moscow, Washington and Kabul will hold video consultations on intra-Afghan talks on June 15.
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad visited Kabul recently During Kabul visit, discussing the practical steps necessary for the start of intra-Afghan negotiations, a US embassy statement said.
In addition, Khalilzad emphasized the importance of maintaining progress on accelerated prisoner releases and preventing any actions from undermining the peace process, according to the statement.
