US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani during his visit to Kabul on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the sides discussed peace process, practical steps ahead of intra-Afghan negotiations, continuing reduction in violence and undeclared ceasefire, and the international community’s commitment to peace process, according to a statement released by the president’s office.
Ghani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace, saying its aim was that practical steps are taken for it.
He said that peace is the main demand of Afghans and the government sees it as a major priority. He said that the government would work together with the international community to achieve lasting peace.
Khalilzad arrived in Kabul after meeting Taliban and Pakistani officials in Doha and Islamabad.
