Afghanistan’s population is estimated to be 32.9 million, the National Statistics and Information Authority said in its latest report released Monday.
Of the total, 16.8 million people (51 percent) are men while 16.1 million people (49 percent) are women.
The latest data further shows that 23.4 million people (71 percent) are rural while 8 million (24.4 percent) are urban people. 1.5 million people (4.6 percent) are kuchis.
The new population figure shows an increase of 700,000 people compared to last year when it was 32.2 million. That figure included 16.4 million men and 15.8 million women.
