A primary military court in Kabul has ordered the interrogation of 13 current and former security officials over an attack at a funeral in Kabul in 2017 that was attended by senior politicians, a government source told 1TV on Monday.
They include former army chief, Gen. Sharif Yaftali, former deputy interior minister, Gen. Murad Ali Murad, former Kabul garrison commander, Gen. Gul Nabi Ahmadzai, former Kabul police chief Gen. Hasan Shah Frogh, and former deputy chief of Kabul police Gen. Sadiq Muradi.
The funeral was for one of several protesters killed at a large demonstration calling for the resignation of the government after a large truck bombthat killed scores of people on May 31, 2017.
The funeral for Salem Izidyar, the son of the senate deputy speaker, was attended by many high-ranking current and former officials, including the country’s then chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah.
At least seven people were killed and 119 more injured in the funeral attack which involved three explosions.
