Afghan government says it will release nearly 900 Taliban prisoners today (Tuesday).
Javid Faisal, a spokesman for National Security Council, said they would be released for the success of peace efforts, continuation of ceasefire and start of talks.
The announcement comes on the last day of a three-day Eid ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
On the first day, Ghani ordered to release 2,000 Taliban prisoners as a “gesture of goodwill.”
A US-Taliban agreement signed in February in Qatar stipulated the release of up to 5,000 Taliban prisoners as a confident-building measure before intra-Afghan talks.
The government has already released over 1,000 Taliban prisoners.
