Sixteen Taliban militants were killed in an air raid by Afghan forces in northern Balkh province early on Tuesday, army said.
The raid by A-29 Super Tucano targeted a gathering of militants in Kushanda district around 1:10a.m., army’s 209 Shaheen Corps said in a statement.
Those killed included also commander of Taliban’s “Red Unit” for Kushanda and Zari districts, identified as Yaqub, also known Mansoor, according to the statement.
In a separate incident, six grenades were thrown at provincial headquarters of National Directorate of Security in Parwan last night.
Wahida Shahkar, a spokesperson for provincial governor, said that no one was hurt.
