At least five people were killed and 27 others were wounded in two separate bomb blasts in Helmand and Paktika provinces last night, officials said Monday.
The blast in Helmand’s Nahr-i-Saraj district was triggered by explosives placed in a vehicle.
The Defense Ministry said that the suicide attacker was detected and shot before reaching his target of Yakhchal post.
It said that one soldier was seriously wounded in the incident.
Omar Zwak, a spokesman for provincial governor, however, said that five forces were killed and seven others were wounded in the blast.
Meanwhile, in Paktika, Taliban militants threw grenade at a group of people who garnered outside a mosque waiting for Taraweeh prayers, injuring 20, said Mohammad Aryan, a spokesman for provincial police.
The incident happened in Mohammad Hasan village of Khair Kot district, following which militants also fired at local police of the village.
Taliban has yet to make comment.
